Vacation Tips for the Senior Traveler
If you are 65 years old or older and have an AARP and/or an AAA membership, then you can find some great discounts on hotels, flights, cruises, as well as passes to museums, parks, and much more. Even without a membership, don’t forget to just ask for these types of discounts when making any reservation online or over the phone. Check with a travel agent if you are not sure. You can even find great deals on the following with any particular membership if you are over the age of 55:
Airfare, Trains and Hotel Booking
Before booking your next flight, make sure to research each airline’s discount for senior travelers. Each airline may have different age eligibility guidelines (i.e. starting at 55, 62 or 65+). If you are an AARP member you can use the AARP Travel Center to look for hotel/flight discounts and book your next trip.
Annual National Park Passes
If you are 62 years old or older then you are eligible for a reduced annual pass to all U.S. National Parks. At the reduced cost of $10, you can gain entrance or access to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites across the country. To register, you can visit the USGS website for more details.
Museums and other Attractions
Before you purchase a ticket to any site ask about any discounts for AARP members or those aged 55+. You will be surprised at how most locations offer a discount on entry and other cost savers.
Special Cruise Pricing for Seniors
Cruises do offer reduced senior prices on selected cruise destinations for those 55+ (depending on the cruise line). This is a great opportunity if you are flexible with your departure date and destination.
